Thanksgiving Holiday: 7 + 1 Simple Ideas That Would Help You Recharge from a Week’s Worth of Work

Human resource books are awesome guides in helping anyone at the workplace. But there are only a handful that mentions about how you can make your career feel like new week after week. Have you got any information from them?

happy thanksgiving

If you can’t the answer from human resource books online, this could be your lucky day. Below, I listed down 7 useful tips on how you can recharge this Thanksgiving. But these tips can be used all year round. You don’t need a special holiday to spice up your professional career and show love for yourself.
Take one of the 7 or perform all of these tips to feel refreshed when you get back to work.

1. Wake up late – without a hangover. Partying on a Friday night with your colleagues might sound like a great idea for rewarding yourself. But staying up late and taking in all that booze isn’t good for your skin, more so for your health. Rest your tired body from a week’s worth of work by having 8 or more hours of sleep.

2. Prepare breakfast. During the work week, I’m pretty sure you just grab a sandwich and coffee to go on your way to work. Cut all the rush of the holiday weekend by taking the time to fry a couple of eggs, make some toasts and toss a salad. Being able to squeeze a glass of fresh fruit juice would make things even better.

3. Go out on a date with your partner, family or friends. Weekends are surely the perfect time to reconnect and strengthen your relationships. Make an effort to spend much time with the people who matter most to you during the holidays. Spending time together doesn't have to be expensive. You can choose to stay at home and do things together or plan out an adventure packed day in your city. Be creative in coming up with an activity or a set of it that will be enjoyed by everyone involved.

4. Take a stroll in the park. Getting to work early and leaving late at night can make you miss out on the beauty of the scenery that you pass by. Especially if you have a lot of concerns for that day. Being locked up in an air conditioned room for more than 8 hours a day might not be very good for your health. When you have time, make it a point to walk around and breathe in natural air not generated by room cooling machines. Take the time to appreciate the scene and the greenery to help recharge your mind.

5. Take a long warm bath. What could be more relaxing than a bubble bath complete with soothing music and scented candles? You can also bring in a bottle of red wine to complete the A-list experience. Taking a little more time in the shower doesn't only help you pay more attention to your body but it also assists the creation of a hassle-free and laid-back day.

6. Cut off (or at least lessen) your connection to technology. In this day and age, this idea might sound crazy. Everyone has mobile phones and other portable gadgets that keep us connected to the rest of the world through the internet and social media sites. Though this type of technology is great for keeping us updated, checking your work email on the weekend or throughout the holiday doesn't help you recharge. Make an effort to unplug for at least an hour during the weekend to enjoy more your time away from the office.

7. Feed your creativity. You don’t have to be an artist to appreciate artworks in a museum or enjoy a theatrical presentation. Sometimes, having the need to stimulate your mind is an enough reason to take on artistic pursuits. Who cares if you don’t actually understand it? Being exposed to the arts or other things not related to your work could be useful for stimulating your mind.

The GOLDEN RULE OF RECHARGING: Consciously sit and quiet down your mind. This may sound pretty easy but it’s not. Just sitting in one corner and taking in the scene without thinking about work could be difficult. But you’ll get this eventually. Just make sure to devote some time to practice this on weekends or a couple of minutes at night before you go to bed.
